Richard 'Dickie' McCallum first visited India in 2001, by car from London (on the way to Beijing), recreating a pioneering 1927 motor-journey by his ancestor Sir Duncan McCallum. He knew then that India would eventually become home.

Dickie began his career with John Swire & Sons in Hong Kong. After postings to Karachi and New Delhi with Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, he settled in India in 2007, co-founding an adventure tourism company, Flying Fox.

In 2013, Dickie joined the UK India Business Council as their Managing Director. In 2022 he became UKIBC's Group CEO. Dickie is currently Senior Advisor to the firm.

Dickie believes the UK has a huge amount to learn from India - but first, it has a lot to learn about India. Too few people in the UK appreciate India's contribution to the world - and its future. He writes about this as well working with his long-term collaborator Chris Stowers, to produce books of photography about interesting, little-know aspects of India.

In this piece I explore what comes next for UK-India ties —

and why it matters.

In this piece I discuss how India and the UK can co-develop defence capabilities that support India’s emergence by 2047.

In the piece I explore how shared tech, investment and innovation between the UK and India can unlock potential on both sides.

I travelled across India to trace how the nation’s proudest facial hair traditions are giving way to clean-shaven digital lives.
